Hopefully you will not need your neighbors colostrum...Patches may just be a late developer this time :wink: Ofcourse, I am hoping she goes tonight, though I would happily give up the FQ's if going a couple more days guarantees her milk comes in so you don't have to bottle feed....darn generous of me, huh :lol: :lol: :lol:

Colostrum is like pre milk and mares only make this for about 8-10 hours after they foal. Its full of antibodies to ensure the foal doesnt get sick from bacteria etc. Foals that do not get enough or none usually go septic and end up in the hosptial or die :(
I think Patches will be fine but we are just checking out all options just in case. Normally even a mare without a bag will suddenly fill with colostrum as soon as the foal is born when she sees it and licks it.
But this makes it really hard to predict when she will foal to be sure im awake and there in time. Normally the biggest indicator is the size of the bag and that is how I knew that Flirt would foal when she did etc.

Kay, you know that you have many eyes on her, and we will shout out if she looks ready to foal, so you get rested up, just in case you have do have to go the bottle feeding route :D :D :D

no luck again, but I did e-mail Tom, maybe he can tell me what the problem is. :( Anyway, I will keep trying, glad that you are keeping a great up to the minute update! :D
