billswife99: I had to laugh at that question as I had to ask the same thing last year!

Yes, they do lay down and the legs go out straight, not curled up.
Since I can never catch them giving birth I don't know much.

Yes, as susiequilt said, Patches will lay down & her legs will be straight out when she's pushing. Sometimes she might get up & walk around, then lay down & do the straight leg thing again, until the foal comes out.
First the front hooves/legs, then head come out - it's quite astonishing. :D
Minis can have some trouble with the sac being thick & not breaking open, so that's one of the reasons we all help watch, so we can call them & someone will be in the stall with her if they aren't already.

I remember an old saying my Momma used to use - "A watched pot never boils" LOL Maybe Patches heard that one too and is trying to wait until everyone has lost interest. Fat chance!

She wants to wait until it is dark outside...very dark...the moon has to be just so....with venus and mercury and mars in just the right position :wink:
