I was talking to a neighbor at the quilt show today, and she said that these mares are really shy, private animals. So, then the ladies went on to discuss different animals birthing.
Apparently the giraffe does not lay down ... both Jan and I looked down to the ground, saying "That is quite a drop!" Neither of us believed that the giraffe didn't lay down, but the other lady insisted, and I figured ... I suppose if I had a neck that long, I wouldn't be doing a lot of laying around either. So, now we know ... giraffes do not lay down to birth their babies.
I didn't see it, by my neighbor was watching one of my cows walk across the field (first calf heifer) and, the calf just dropped on the ground in mid stride ... she called to tell me I had a new calf, and then met me out in the field to tell me what all she had seen.
