Default Free shipping vs paid by customer determines carrier

Placed 2 orders from same web site within one week. One qualified for free shipping shipped by FedEx. The other I was charged shipping and shipped with post office. Have you noticed this? Can't track pkg with USPS so don't know delivery time.

You can track with USPS if the merchant sets it up when the product ships.

I can track with USPS. I guess it depends on the set up by the shipper.

UPS and Post office are much faster then Fed Ex in my area. I've been waiting for five days from Fed EX for a package that is 'out for delivery'. I think the driver must save all the packages for one area to deliver at one time. Even the ones shipped Express.

Julie, this is happening a lot lately. I know from my own little online business. I like to check the tracking and sometimes nothing comes up for awhile and then all of a sudden it says "delivered". I use mostly USPS.

Every service seems to have severe issues all of a sudden. An express Fed-Ex Package that should have been delivered Monday was suddenly delivered late Friday after I called customer service and asked what the issue was. Another delivery took 14 days to get here, I have another package that was shipped priority mail Monday and is coming from 40 miles away from me, is currently “delayed” with no ETA for delivery.
IMHO, be prepared for shipping issues for the foreseeable future especially with the USPS.

I get my USPS packages very quickly, usually faster than originally promised, and have always been able to track them using the tracking number provided by the sender. However FedEx packages often take longer than the original estimate, and the tracking information is not as reliable. UPS is very good, and of course Amazon is amazing, probably because there's a distribution warehouse not too far away. Right now there are far more packages being shipped than normal, even for this time of year.

It sounds like the shipper created a label from their computer and probably did the same for many other packages. Then the shipper will take multiple packages to the post office in one trip or have the post office pick them up from her. Many sellers on Etsy do that. I was supposed to receive a package yesterday from Fed Ex, it's coming from NJ. I didn't get anything but a notice stating it is pending delivery. It's probably stuck in a snow storm.

So far most all my orders with free shipping have come either by UPS or FedX. Seems to depend on the weight mostly for me as some have come USPS. I also notice that the package will get all the way to the last UPS station and then they send it over to the USPS office to finish. Again, mostly due to the weight of the package.
