Yeah I know...I've never been partial to my name, but at least my Mom won out---my Dad wanted to name me Audry!

Cynthia Gail here. Family always called me Gail. Born 1949 and grew up in California but family moved around a lot in later teens.
One time while working at a resort in Central Oregon we got acquainted with a Biologist who had my first and my maiden name. When she came up and introduced herself as Cynthia Barnes I was so surprised. I did not think that would ever happen.

    I'm a Gayle!!!
There was only one other Gail in my High School. She was rich and short and had long dark hair and was a cheerleader. She was so mean to me!!!! 30 years later, at our 30th reunion a couple years ago she came up and gave me a huge hug, I am baffled at that!!!!
I had a Spanish teacher try to call me "Gloria" because Gayle was not a "Spanish" name. I hated that!!!

    I was born in 1960

Try having a son named Rhett as in Rhett Butler from Gone with The Wind. All 3 of my children have a name from Gone With The Wind.

I'm an Elizabeth Gail and as a child apparently called by that full name....at some point, I started referring to myself as just Gail and it stuck with my parents. In high school, I had a male friend who enjoyed annoying me by calling me Lizzy Gail - I must say at some risk to his general health :-)
It would amuse him to no end to find that now at age 64, I've started a handmade purse business and am calling it Lizzy Gail Bags!!

Wow thanks so much for the wonderful response...I'm going to try to tally up how many we actually have here or at least that have posted in this thread.

I also was born in 1951. Maybe it was the Gale Storm actress? Thank you so much for everyone's response...

Well only women have answered so far so I will put in my DH (almost). My MIL wanted to name him Gail. Thankfully my FIL filled out the birth certificate and Accidentally misspelled it and put down Gil instead. Can't you just imagine a 6 ft tall 250 lb man named Gail?
