New members have posted replys in the PDA section of the board. From the amount of views some of these get, there must be both old and new members reading them. Members read a lot of posts, but only a small percentage post replys, this is on the WHOLE board, not just the PDA section. Out of over 8200 members, how many reply to Pictures that are posted? Questions or comments in the Main section??? GCC??? My guess, not even a consistent 10%. There is nothing at all wrong with being a reader and not a poster!!! But to say one section does not get readers/ or member's interest, may be incorrect, if judged totally by who posts a reply!!

If you read the first page of my PDA, I invited everyone who wants to, to not only read mine, but reply, and to please feel free to jump into a conversation, I don't consider anyone a "Hijacker" in my thread and to make themselves at home" :D :D :D

Please let me state this emphatically...somewhere, someone started the misconception that we started a thread in PDA so we had a "place to be raunchy" This is far from the truth!!! Most of what is written is about what is going on in members lives. Very little is any different from what is posted in GCC, as far as the "rating" of the conversations.

If a new or potential member was to first come to this post on the board...I wonder what they would think of us? :? :? :? We need to be careful of what we state in our replys. Opinions, yes of course!!!! But assumptions, please word them carefully...I would hate for someone to completely avoid the PDA section based on the assumption that if they click on a post, they will read something quite "adult rated" or shocking! These are thoughts, ramblings, sharing life's events, happy times, sad times, sharing words of encouragement, etc... postings...

When the restrictions are lifted in GCC I am sure there will be way more people posting there again, and the PDA section may or may not slow down, but please don't put the PDA section down, just don't visit there if it does not interest you...

I hope that the Admin can make a decision soon so that all of this drama.....and yes that is exactly what it is.......drama, can be over with and we can move on.

I'm starting to wonder what the point of this thread really is.........

Thank you Amma, I wanted to say pretty much that and couldn't find the words to do it yet. I am sure that I may have come up with something.

We have gone past the BBQ and moved right on to best friends.

No one is making anyone come over to PDA or GCC, so if you are just here for the quilting, feel free to stick to it, if that is what you want you should be happy that we are doing most of out chit chat in those two places and not in the quilting side. It was opened up that way to get that part out of your way. now you want to get rid of it, so then I guess we get to go back to chit chatting on the quilting threads!

I don't go to the PDA area much, but I can see it has helped avoid some of the problems we were having GCC for a while. I'm sorry to hear pictures are not making it over to the picture area because I am inspired by what I see there. I'm sorry to miss any of them. I like the idea of having a reason posted as to why a post has been locked. I can usually tell why, but if not it answers our questions quickly and easily.

I ditto everything Amma said!! I did stop coming to this message board because I felt there were some members that only cared about how many posts they were doing. I didn't feel that they really cared about the board at all, except to be 'popular'. I have been a member almost since this message board started and feel that I have alot of dear friends here and that we have always cared about one another. Whether it be what is going on in their personal life or what quilt they are working on or questions they might have that I could help them with.
I only look at the threads that I am interested in and I only post to the ones that I feel like posting too. If I'm offended by something, I ignore it. As for one that is going thru some major health problems right now, I think the PDA is a great place to keep my quilting friends updated on what is going on. And feel that they can support me, which is something I need right now. And if one of them needs support in a time of need, I know there is a place to do it. And if you don't want to read what I wrote, don't!

I love photos of projects, patterns, asking for suggestions. And while I'm sorry if your goat or rhinoceros has leg spasms during the full moon, I would really rather see the quilt you made out of grampa's neckties. I have never gone to the diary page, and probably won't. But it's great for those those who have the time.

I was (am)personally offended by off color jokes. As above, I am on the quilting board site. I don't care to read cute little stories, jokes, etc.

And while I'm on this subject, I am anoyed by quotes inside quotes, inside quotes. Just add your ideas without the rehearsal that we could all read. I can see certain threads get off subject easily, like the swaps. I love seeing what others are making, their patterns, colors, but personal little jokes are lost on the rest of us.

I love the way that Admin listens to all of us, tries to make it a workable board. So instead of doing away with the diaries, just make the rules more clear. It would be a huge job for monitors to move things to their correct spots as they are posted tho. Thanx for starting this discussion.
This is exactly how I feel too....
If I may suggest: I would like to have some dictionary for the abraviation we are using....Some of us (including me)...are strageling with the English language as it is.....
Thanks for the efforts to make this board even better...
By the way: I love your look too....

I understand the puzzlement of something like this being moved or deleted. It seems that the GCC wasn't just closed to "negative" things or highly personal things but, to anything personal (but not always). A forum member announcing they are expecting a baby is a GOOD thing and is very appropriate to announce to the community as a whole.

I quit smoking and I announced that in GCC. It was a positive post and I got support and encouragement.... until it was deleted. I just don't know where the line is drawn anymore and it made me not want to post anything that wasn't 100% about quilting. I don't use the PDA much, there are just too many things there to go through.

WOW! My eyes and head are spinning from reading all the replies.
OUCHY! And I thought my body ached from my trip!

I'm sure Admin is going to do his best with ALL threads pertaining to everything.
Like they say...you can't please all the people all of the time....

So, with that said....I'm off to post my Japan trip in GCC.
    Hope everyone enjoys....

Admin. and moderators--I am so sorry you have to put up with all of this. I think you bit off more that you can chew. If I were you I would just shut down the whole thing . And start over with a new forum --Strictly Quilting!!!!! And then the ones that want to join that , can come on over.
I don't post much on here, only about the few quilts I am making. I have plenty else to do , with work and grandkids and yardwork, that I don't have time for other unimportant stuff. I don't socialize much in real life , and I know there are those that like to . so why can't they email or call the others? why do they have to take over the board?
I loved this forum when it first started , there was so much quilting info and help. Now I just check in once or twice a day, skim through it , and usually don't find anything helpful or interesting. I do enjoy seeing everyone's horses and flowers tho.
So , Admin. if you ever decide to start up a new Quilt Forum , let me know ,'cuz I'll jump on that one.
    Just my 2 cents---Elaine
    Ditto! Just like she said:)
