I've always used spit to clean up blood spots from hand quilting. I chew a wad of white thread scraps and then use them to blot the spot. If the blood stain is too big to do that with your son's shirt, I would carefully try peroxide. I am not sure what perioxide would do to the other colours on the shirt.

Well, I can't get my son to spit on that shirt today as he still has slightly bloody spit after having 12 teeth cut out yesterday. And he definately can't chew thread...

The stain is a drool line in a couple of streaks down about 1/2 of the shirt. It missed the neck/shoulder line because when he fell asleep his head dropped forward. The blue on the shirt is very dark, so I don't think that this reddish brown stain will be as much of an issue with that part of the shirt. But boy does it stand out on the white part. I have it soaking in Arm and Hammer + Oxy detergeant right now. If it comes out of the washer and still has the stain then I guess I'll line dry it until mostly dry and then apply peroxide as I already have that at home.

I have used peroxide on many fabrics for years, including wool, and it has never changed the original color.

my old standby is a bar of Ivory soap(not dish liquid). Wet the stain with cold water(only cold) and rub with a wet bar of Ivory soap. Rub the fabric together around the stain to get the soap through the fabric and stain and rinse with cold water. You may have to repeat. You can also leave the Ivory soap in the stain until you wash the item, it won't hurt anything. I find this takes out most stains including ballpoint pen ink. Sometimes with old stains it takes a couple of times of treatments or it might not work if too old and set in.

Soak it in Oxiclean. For me, that removes a multitude of stains including sick dog stains on my white carpet.

Nyquilter is absolutely correct. I have done it myself. You can wet a rolled up thread or just spit on it and it will go away. I know this works.

If it is just a prick of the finger and you get blood on your quilt, you can rub it out using your own saliva on your own blood. I learned this years ago in a quilting class. It does work.

Era laundry soap is good for that Treat the spot itself before you wash it. It always took care of getting rid of ""the monthly" issues on clothing and bedding

My DH got some blood on a new sweat shirt of course it dried before he mentioned it to me. I was a bit leary of using peroxide because I didn't want the color to fade. So after some searching I found that dampening the area and rub with plain old Ivory soap on the blood and rinse and surprise the blood came right out. Also used it on my carpet when DS had a nose bleed and it worked great.
