Please check in when you all can... and give your locations as we have friends and relatives in affected areas this way we have an idea of what is going on.. Thanks and be safe first and foremost.

I’m not experienced with hurricanes, but prepare for tornados at our house. I understand that hurricanes spawn tornados at times, so I’d probably not fill the bathtub with water before the storm. I’d fill the washing machine and then count on using the drain valve on the hot water tank to furnish more if we needed it later. I’d wait until after the initial storm passes, and then if there was still water pressure, I’d fill the tub with water for the no-electricity event that may follow.
Folks who don’t have a storm shelter or safe room for tornados usually depend on an empty bathtub with a mattress over the top as a last-chance effort for survival around here.
Good luck to all of you in the storm.

Always wondered how people prepare for a tornado without a storm shelter or basement. A lot of Florida homes have a small hallway between bedrooms that is closed off when bedroom and bathroom doors are closed. It's supposed to be a good place to hide at the hight of a storm. Luckily I've never had to try it.

Just spoke to my sister-in-law in Toms River and she said that they are prepared to leave taking everything that is necessary and important. I live in Maryland and it is starting to rain hard (5:30 p.m.) They are talking about it going up the Chesapeake Bay with force. Let's just say "Good night, Irene". Remember that song. Wishing and hoping that she decides to go out to sea.

Krystyna - I grew up in Long Beach, next to the Bay, and went thru some serious storms. Bay and ocean met, and my father couldn't get home from NY because the train trestle was under water. But we managed, and I hope you - and my LB school friends still there - have a safe time of it. I'm not that far away in New Jersey now, so the worst will be a monster power failure from wind and downed trees. Oh for a treadle-machine now so I can keep calm with some quilting! Be safe!

We got everything done before noon and it started with some of the leading edge rain just after that. It's been raining pretty steady for quite a few hours now -- but just steady rain, no winds to speak of yet. Had a nice dinner and now it's time to relax and watch a movie and work on a tote bag I'm making.
Stay safe everyone.
