Thank you ladies! All great ideas. I ended up buying a simple locket that she can put pictures in. It is not one of the ones with the filigree, more simple, no frills, and modern for a 22 year old. Pretty. IMHO. i did look at the clear floating lockets but I thought this may have more wearable longevity vs trendy.

I made my step daughter a quilt out of t shirts tha her mother wore. I put pictures on it and made a heart block out of a blouse that she always liked on her mother and a church dress that I made corner blocks out of. She displays it from and indoor balcony over looking her living room. She loves it.

What I have done for my 5 SILs when their father died was to collect his handkerchiefs and add their initials and lace. The fancy stitches on my sewing machine came in handy for this. I used variegated threads to add color. Each now has a hanky that belonged to their father. My sisters also got a fancy hanky when my dad passed away. If her mom had hankies you could make a crazy quilt stitch using the hankies and make a small wall hanging; or just frame them for her.

Hospital gift shops have great crosses, that are reasonable priced.
