A good friend of ours has a brother whose barn blew over recently. He's offered to let us have wood to make shelves on which we can display our machines. Really looking forward to making them (hope the wood is suitable) so we can organize our growing collection. We like rustic things, and nail holes don't bother us. Wish Miss Penny and I luck! Old barn boards and beams can make some wonderful furniture too ... plane down and go for it!!
Also, I used reclaimed barn boards as trim when restoring my 150 yo farm home. Again, planed, then routered it to make age appropriate trim. The nail, worm and knot holes added to the rustic look. It looked like it belonged, better than the new stuff if it had been used.
In my mud room, I have a large barn beam for a window sill. Also, as a bench another runs the length in a lost space between the garage door and verandah door. Sits at just the right height to take your boots off, and boot trays fit in underneath.

Sounds good! Just be carefull of bugs! Local restraunt used old barn wood in there decor when things started to get warm bugs started hatching The whole place had to be funagated! They were told they should have wraped all the wood in heavey plastic and heat it up to room temp for a couple of days and then throw in a bug boumb.

Oldest DD's first married home had the high living room walls covered with angled boards from old barns. With a lot of sanding and finishing it was lovely. Never saw any before that wasn't horizontal or vertical, but this really made the room different!!
