Put him up for adoption in the news paper

He was smart as a whip, but weighed almost 60 pounds, and would jump in my chest in a heartbeat, nearly knocking me down, every time, and I would start yelling and this would only escalate things, but by this time, this dog was all over my head and I couldn't stand up straight!
I would become freakin furious and be turning all red, blue and purple, and he just loved it all...jump on mama, jump on mama...get her down, sit on her...knock the wind out of her...she can't get up, with fibro AND a bad knee...
I used a spray bottle of water for about six months, and then finally, hubby convinced me, that he was a pain in the arse for everyone, esp. grandbabies, and i was paranoid to walk outside. He would watch and wait for me to put that bottle down. I finally gave up, and we gave him away.
yes, it was a little sad, but when I started being able to walk in my own yard again without constantly looking around, and trying to sneak to my car etc. I vowed not to ever put myself through that again, with another animal. he went to a good home.

Good call QC. I think that animals are "made for us" and if you get the wrong animal it just won't work. There is a lady a few houses up from me that has been dumped upon by a inconsiderate Grand son. He dumped this very large very unruly large lab on her doorstep. She is in ill health and can barely walk on her own. To see her try to control that animal is painful. Neither of them are happy. That dog needs a younger person with plenty of time to devote to his training. You shouldn't feel badly about giving that dog the family he needed. I think you did a good deed.
