I saw Compaq laptops for $298 at Walmart. One was set up for a demo and it is super nice.

Ya, Best Buy has them too for that price. Good computer. The only thing is that they don't tend to have a Word processing program. They give a 60 day trial, then you have to buy one from Microsoft or someone- usually about 100 or more $$. I bought one for my husband because he only surfs the net.

If you have a college student in the house, sometimes the college offers access to the programs for very little $$.

I have Open Office on my new laptop and don't like it as well as MS Office. Takes forever to open, for one.

I am at that "set in my ways" stage of life I guess. I had a hard enough time learning the MS application, what little I did learn.

I went there again today and the price is now $278. I bought one. It's great to use for Netflix movies in my sewing room and to tote around. I took Norton off the thing. The programs I was downloading kept saying Norton was conflicting. I installed the free AVG virus. And I use Open Office. I only download the word program not the spreadsheets, presentation, picture editing, drawing, etc. It loads fast with all these not installed. I use Google Cloud and imported all my bookmarks and set it up so I could print from anywhere to my home printer. Not a bad deal at all for less then $300.
