It is aweful that you just can't trust ppl anymore. I know I would be sending her an email cause I would be steaming mad. I am sorry this happened to you. BTW did you buy it back from goodwill or did you leave it there.

I left it there. I didn't want it around as a constant reminder of what a trusting idiot I was. I did email her and posted what she did on CL so that nobody else would get suckered in. When I give GW a donation I refuse to get a receipt, I don't make donations for tax breaks. It irks me think that someone may have used my stuff to do that with. However, if I had wanted to keep the fabric I would have so I guess it's all going for a good cause in the end.

yes take comfort in the knowledge that some quilter or someone needing fabric will be absolutely thrilled to find it!

Wish it was my goodwill, I would appreciate it and give all of it a loving home.

You should really take the tax credit. Refusing to do so isn't helping anyone and you're cutting your nose off to spite your face-so to speak. The gov't gets most of what we have anyway...to save a few bucks and help out a charity is a win-win. I just donated 4 bags of clothes. And you bet I'll be taking the credit! My accountant recommends taking a photo of the donations with a record of the amounts of donation. You are entitled x amount for shirts, pants, shoes etc. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS come tax time. And it's a motivator to go through your closet and help out others in need.

I'd be tempted to egg her house.

I never ask for a receipt for taxes. I'm sorry but God doesn't ask us to give and expect a return. Just my opinion.

Rapture ready, just know in your heart that your giving was done with the best of intentions. God knows your intentions. "Cast your bread upon the water and it shall be returned to you after many days". You reap what you sow (sew).. So will she...

Thank you, one and all. I still won't ask for receipts, not that I think badly of anyone that chooses to, I just prefer not to. Because of me being a state retiree I don't have to pay state taxes. My husband is disabled so he doesn't have to pay taxes other than on investment dividends so we come out okay. I think that as of tomorrow I'm going to put all this behind me and forget that it ever happened. If the fabric is still there when I go back I'll look at it and think, "What lovely fabric, I hope it finds a home."
