DH does the "prep work," then turns it over to an accountant. They were finished last week. Refund from both Federal and State. Not too much, and it'll go toward DD's college tuition anyhow. Being in New York State, we already know that'll be a while before it comes anyhow, as they are holding them.

Gah....such a weight off, really. We got a bit back so it's not a matter of seeing how everything washes...it was more like going through a thousand little receipts to find the pertinent ones that made it so...wait for it....TAXING.

We'll see if the state holds on to ours this year. EVERYBODY in the state got delayed by a couple months last year because there was "no money to send refunds with". Mmmmmkay....

It's going though all those receipts and stuff that we keep putting off doing. DH is a pastor and much of his pay is housing allowance so we have to figure out how much we really used towards housing allowance.

Mine aren't done, either. Meant to do them in February but life got in the way. This past weekend my significant other nagged me so much about getting them done, I flat out told him that wouldn't do them until this week! Take that, fussy budget!! Of course, this means I still have to do them but one MUST fight back ocassionally.

We never get a refund so we wait until April to file. It's just another yearly bill like property tax to pay.

I'm lucky--my husband used to work for H & R Block. he does ours, plus other peoples' taxes on the side.
He does ours as soon as all the paperwork is in. It seemed to take FOREVER to get our tax documents this year.

I used to work for H&R. I didn't work this year and it's a real relief not to do 250 tax returns during tax season. I did a couple for friends and ours and oldest granddaughters. That's enough for me!

We did the same - got our State back around the first part of February and the Federal back the second week in March - only because I made a mistake - Instead of getting $174 back we are getting $565 back from Federal - so I will never say anything bad about the Federal income tax. Only problem now is we haven't had a chance to get it to the bank! Unless we have to pay out, we always go for the gusto and get it in asap! I have this thing about me and that is get it done, out of the way and then forget about it! Good way to think, but then I really, really forget about it! Don't ask me where the papers are, don't ask me anything, I forgot!
