Hi.I'm in Ryton,Tyne & Wear U.K. We moved here from North Yorkshire to be nearer to our son. That is great and we get to see our step grandson who is a delight.Because of disability I no longer drive so it has been harder for me to get out and about, although my lovely husband is always willing to taxi me wherever I want to go.I hosted a quilt group of friends for twenty years and of course I miss them and other friends so much.I guess it is harder to make new friends when you are in your seventies but we are getting there.I have made a start joining U3A and my husband bought a classic car and joined a like minded group. We have good neighbours and the people up here are very friendly so I feel blessed. The only thing now is to find a church,I do miss the fellowship I had with the one we had to leave behind. This forum gives so much though, who knows, maybe I will get to learn how to post 'photos some day, I love to see everyones work,Letty

Jan in VA really captured my feelings..................You can't just sit on the side lines and wait for the right time, place or group of people to come your way. You must join the parade and see where it goes!! I'm so proud of you!!

It just takes time, doesn't it, Letty. I'm so glad you have us, we're happy to help; but it's even better that you reached out to join a group even though they weren't *exactly* your type. Look what doors that opened for you!
How I wish more women who have been "displaced" (thru divorce, death of a spouse, retirement, or a major move and new home) would realize that life is what happens while you are sitting on the fence waiting for things to change and reminiscing over what was before. It works so much better when you reach out yourself!!
You put your big girl panties on and got going, hurray for you!! I hope you end up teaching a whole new group of "crafters" that didn't know they were really quilters 'til you came along for them!!
