A friend of mine had a fenced in yard & a lovely springer spaniel. Someone poisoned her dog & while he did survive the attack at that time, he later had kidney failure & died young. Some people are so sick!!

This has happened here, and have also had people to go into pet stores that still sell pets and get them out of the show area and walk out the door with them. Have been caught on video surveillance. It has been on the news.

Haven't heard of it in our area but we have to deal with coyotes so don't leave my dog out after dark.

Back in the summer here they had someone/ or some people putting poison chicken over fences into peoples back yards where their pets were. I'm a good Christian women, but messing with my dogs is like messing with my kids. I am afraid if I caught someone doing that in my backyard they would have 2 choices, 1 lay on the ground until the po po gets here or my 357 would help them lay down real fast! ( No, not shoot to kill, but make them wish I had)
Yes, in this area there has been dog thieves in the past, some just want the dag, some use them for bait dogs and some sell them for research. Sad how you have to be careful on your own property for fear of others.
