I'm trying to make a stick pouch for a jr high percussionist. My thought is to make it so it will roll up and tie, with pockets and a fold over flap.
My quandry is the dimensions. He only has a few sticks and mallets now but I'm sure he will acquire more as time goes on.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

It needs to have lots and lots and lots of extra room and pretty deep pockets. If he's going to stick with it for any length of time, he's going to acquire lots of mallets and sticks that are going to be all different sizes and length.

A shoulder strap would probably be helpful, and something to make sure that the sticks won't all fall out if it's turned upside down when it's closed is pretty essential.

You might look at stick bags online and see if any of them give dimensions.

Good luck with your budding musician! :D

Exactly what I'm thinking of - the crayon or crochet hook roll only bigger.
But not sure how big it needs to be. And how big each pocket should be.
I'm thinking of maybe 10 inch deep pockets, stitched at varying widths, like maybe some 2-3 inches, some 4-5 inches. Does that sound about right?

here's a link to a bag, most drummers want the bag to be able to hang off the instrument so that the stick are within arms reach.

The ones I saw at the music store yesterday were either a zipup bag like for a Day Planner or were just little drawstring pouches like a marble bag only longer. Not impressed with either one, hence my trying to do the roll up one. Did not see any like the link fabric fancy so kindly provided.

Thanks for the ideas and encouragement. Got it done, his sticks fit and there's room for more sticks. And best of all he likes it.
