I've had that happen to me with yarn and when I took a picture or sent the actual knot, made my complaint and sent it to them, I have ALWAYS been reimbursed with more yarn. I'd sure try that because they want to keep your business. I always start out with a compliment about their service or the quality of their product and THEN put in the complaint. Try it; I bet it works!

At the cost of thread these days, you bet! They should replace it for you.

I love Aurifil thread and only have about 6 spools of it. I'm a fairly new quilter. Would you believe that two of my spools have had knots in them. One knot bent the needle so much that I had to replace it. I wish I'd taken pictures to send to them.

I learned long ago to always write a letter when there is a problem or a thank you. Letters cannot be ignored as an email or phone call can. I have had thread with knots over the years but so seldom for all the thread I have used.

I didn't find a knot but I'm having trouble with the thread hanging in the slit that holds the thread under the paper to keep it from coming undone before first use. I have switched ends of the spool but it does the same thing there also. It's coats.

This happens to me all the time with Coats. I keep an emery board in my sewing machine and I have to file the end (opposite where the slit is) filed smooth or the thread catches all the time. Very frustrating. I use Coats for all of my non-quilting projects because of the cost.

I just had something similar happen with YLI varigated thread. My machine was making a funny noise (doesn't that give you a sick feeling in your stomach?) the thread had formed a knot above the needle. My LQS said she uses a different brand, so I switched. I need all the help I can get with machine quilting, I don't need thread quality problems.
