I used to do garage sales back in Illinois and did quite well, but have had 2 here in Ohio and it really was not worth it. So now I donate to Kidney Foundation and Am Vets and get way more off my taxes than I ever did at yard sales.

After our last garage sale, cuz of a move, and a whole garage full....even tho we made about $600, it was a pain in the keester.

    Never again.

Now I donate clothes/shoes/towels/bedding to a homeless shelter and the rest I offer on Freecycle.

warm quilt hugs, sue in CA

I will not do another yard sale, hubby talked me into it once, never again. Everything gets donated on a detailed receipt to local charities in the area.

I have had a few yard sales over the years. It's alot of work, I try to price the item when I decide it has to go. I'm on the main drag into town, so rarely advertise, we put the stuff out under the carports and then we put up the signs. Whatever is not sold goes to charity. Hospice, St. Vincent de Paul, etc. We also have a thrift store that gives a tax credit in addition to the federal deduction. You need to itemize and it's well worth it. Up to $250 off our state taxes. Since we don't itemize on our federal, we don't have any deductions such as house or kids, the few dollars from the yard/garage sale helps.

My husband and I like to donate to Goodwill--just took 2 boxes of "stuff" a couple weeks ago that I'd decided was time to let go of. My husband was in law enforcement for 30 years and he doesn't like strangers coming to our home/garage. He has too many stories of what can go wrong!

I just had a 3 day garage sale and made $345! I felt toally exhausted after, but being single now and still on unemployment I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

Last garage sale I made $90. Never again. But now I need to purge and I hate to give it all away for free. We can't itemize, so no tax credit. Maybe I'll check into the people who are starting over. They might need some good junk! lol

I live out in the middle of no where! I tend to donate. Most of the stuff I would like to get rid of is junk DH has collected and no one would want it!

I have some great ones in the past and some duds. We are looking to move into a much smaller place than we're in now and I was feeling that I'd have one last one after we move. Much depends on where we end up, location and HOA's loom the biggest in the decision. Probably won't be until later in the fall that I'll consider it.

I may use craigslist. Ususally afterwards we donate the leftovers.

Yes, it's a TON of work and this one I may do I won't have any help so I've got to think about that too.
