My mother claimed that I was potty trained at 12 mo. She fed me breakfast on the potty. lol Boy did I have her trained! Well I'm almost 50 & every once in a while I have to leave my breakfast to "go!"

Jan - interesting that you should mention U.S. vs. other countries. The baby's parents are both from Russia. I was wondering if this was a cultural thing. Today I was looking for a sign in the baby sign language book for "I need to use the potty." As it turns out, the book doesn't even give one. It just gives the sign for "I need a change." I guess this book was published in America.[/quote]

The sign for "toilet" is the letter "t" (put your thumb between the index and middle finger) and either shaking the whole hand or twisting the wrist a couple of times. This sign is used when someone has to go to the bathroom.

I once met a Chinese family who had never put nappies on their child. They got to know at what times generally the child wet and what times he pooped. I guess as he got older he was just automatically trained. Amazing

I was very lucky with my kids. My daughter was trained by 1 year & my son took just a little longer. I worked with them alot too. You have to & it has to be consistant. Not do it one day & get discouraged & not try again for another day or two.
Another reason I think maybe we tried to potty train a little earlier...... we had to wash diapers & hang them out not buy them! LOL
There is no right way or wrong way because everyones lives are different. Just do your best & everything will be ok!

That's my hit on it too. I have two boys. Neither of them showed any interest until nearly three, and then it happened VERY fast. They were dry at night too, and never once ever wet the bed. Paper diapers mean that babies don't feel uncomfortable and wet. We used cloth almost exclusively, but they still have to know they're doing something before they'll be ready to train. Mine just didn't. I never wanted to make a big deal about it, and it never was a big deal. I always figured it would happen in its own time because I never knew anyone at school who was still in diapers. It did. Oh yes, and M&M's were a great incentive. One for potty, two for pooey.

Just shows how EACH child is "their own individual" and reach different goals (in our eyes) in their own terms. Loved reading this "with a smile" on face.

I always wondered about the Eskimo babies - you see the old films of them, the naked baby is carried inside the mom's coat against her back. How did they manage?

My mom always told me I did the same thing when I was 5 months old - I must have been very "regular"!!!
