Have you had your DNA done?

I did mine through 23andme. I found out some interesting things and it validated some things I thought I knew but wasn't sure. I was also able to upload my data to a site called Gedcom. It's a database that stores thousands/millions of DNA reports. I found a cousin I didn't know I had and tracked down some relatives I had lost touch with. To me, it's very interesting and I enjoy it. I have a family tree on Myheritage.com that matches my data with other members and emails me when family members pop up.

I had mine done from Ancestry and it pretty much confirmed what I already knew. Mainly English, Scottish and Irish with some Western European and a few others. My cousin wanted me to have it done to be able to trace the difference in ancestors between families. My grandfather and her grandfather were brothers. I've gone back to the 1200's on my father's side. I'm still having trouble with my mother's side. I'm only back to about the 1700's.

I have considered getting it done, but haven't done it yet. My DH and I both have pretty extensive family trees done by relatives. As far back at it goes, one section goes back to 1600's we are both totally German heritage. I have always wondered if there was other DNA that has gotten in there somehow.

I had it done, because my mother's background is intriguing. She was given as an infant to a couple who raised her as theirs. Her birth mother had her out of wedlock, fathered by her employer apparently. She was the housekeeper for a man who had married a wealthy widow in our town. He was a colorful character acc. to all I can find. This is a pretty certain fact, so I was curious about him. I got to his birth in Canada, but there's a huge gap when he "disappeared" until he died in 1952. Hmmmm! Have totally hit a roadblock. I was 42% Scandinavian and 30% Irish, which I knew. My dad's background is almost 100% Irish.

I am not particularly interested, although I submitted a sample for a health org study. My SiL has done geneology searches as well as DNA and is happy with her results. I don't think there would be many surprises in my English-Irish-French lineage or DNA, so not worth it for me.

My husband and I have no interest in DNA testing for ourselves - -But! we have a new 4 year old rescue dog we would really like to know more about. He is such a mystery in so many ways and his vet seems to feel we would learn a lot about him if we knew his breed make-up. $70. Think we will do it!

I have thought about having it done, but as I have no kids (nor does my only sibling) there doesn't seem to be much point. I don't expect any surprises, all 4 grandparents were born in Europe. Maybe someday my curiosity will overcome my frugality!!

my son and I have been thinking of doing that. After seeing on t.v. that siblings can have different percentages of DNA from parents, we will be doing our soon. As I understand it, mine will go back through maternal line and my son's through paternal. oh well, it will be interesting. I go back to the 900's on my Mothers side already but would love more on my Fathers. not to be I guess. But more info on my son's Fathers side would be great. I haven't gotten far on ancestors. His Dad thought he might have some American Indian in him. Time may tell.
