I am so thankful that I belong to a gleaner group, so only have to worry about buying the staples & meat. We never have to buy eggs, bread, veggies or fruit of any kind, chips, potatoes, onions, garlic etc. We do have to work for it by picking the crops, but our group gets most of it to share & we donate a portion of it to the senior center, local food bank, the soup kitchen, & New Hopes Farm (a small community that houses adults with Downs). There are around 50 in our group, but we help feed around 400 families in all. I do a lot of canning plus can for some that aren't able to can their own stuff. That sure helps on our food bill. Our president has contact with wear houses that donate different products to us also. We just have to go after the stuff. Has really been a blessing for a lot of people here.

I don't look at this as hoarding. Proverbs 31 woman is praised for taking care of her family's needs. God appointed Joseph to bring all the grain in Egypt into the storehouse. Proverbs (one of my most favorite Old Testament books) says "The wise man sees trouble coming and prepares for it. The foolish man just keeps on going." I think it is an example of being a good steward of what God has blessed us
with...too bad we didn't do the same for this wonderful country. In many ways we have wasted the heritage of the Founding Fathers and their sacrifices.

Hmm - our Fred Meyers here has it on sale this week for $6.99. Even tho we're heading East in less than 3 weeks (That's coming up FAST), I'm going to pack in a couple of cans.
