Help name our new fur baby..
#42
I have two black kitties: Wally, so-named because he was dumped in a Wal-Mart parking lot when he was just a tiny baby; and Dex, who came from my young mailman whose wife just had a baby. His name was Dexter, but I didn't want him to be a serial killer. We had two black cats when my kids were little -- they named them Pinky Snuff and Dinky Doo. Who knows why.

my 9 year-old black boy cat with a few white hairs on his throat is named Toby---he does not answer to that or anything else unless he wants to---remember the old saying---
a dog has owners---a cat has staff
a dog has owners---a cat has staff

Our current cats have different names. Skeezix is what my grandmother used to call us when we were in trouble, as in "You little dickens!" When she was a kitten, this cat was into mischief. There was a character in the Uncle Wiggly stories and in the Gasoline Alley comic strip with that name. I got our other cat because Skeezix was friendly but not real affectionate and not a lap cat like I wanted. Our other cat is Tribble, after the 1960s Star Trek episodes where furry, purry tribbles took over the space ship by reproducing. Tribble has a huge purr and is extremely affectionate, acts more like a dog than cat. We had her parts fixed so she couldn't reproduce and take over our space ship! Both my cats came from the local pound.

I like to pick names that reflect their personalities, where they were aquired or their looks. We had a Rocky for a couple of months before we had to put him down because he was sick and had a seizure that left him catatonic. Named Rocky because he was a fighter. The Rocky we have now is huge, looks nothing like the other one and is named that in memory of the other one. Friends named their kitten Klingon because he would climb up their legs and cling to them!
I would watch this little guy for a day or three and see what emerges. Good luck and can't wait for the pictures.

I had a black cat with a bit of white on his chest and on his tummy. When I got him he was tiny and the white hairs were sparse and looked like a lady with salt & pepper hair so I named him Morton after the salt & pepper people. He was a talker and a lover. He would put his paws around my neck and rub his face against mine. We ended up calling him Mort.

We had one like yours with several white hairs on his chest when my children were young. We went thru all the normal names for a black cat and then my husband named him Marshmallow. When people puzzled over the name he would just say he had been toasted. Lots of laughs.
