Just moved into the new(used) house in the last couple weeks from the Turtle Mtn's of ND where the hills are green and the air is moist. Now we live on the Plains of the Dakota's and it is dry.

Our problem: When walking (not dragging feet), I get shocked, either by touching a wall or light switch. I need some hints as of what to do. We are running a humifier in the LR and I have a old coffee part on the burner boiling water.

I have a "shocking personalitiy" already and I don't really need the extra power boost to extend my life. So what does everyone else do in this case??? Thanks to everyone that sends me hints and you might just help someone else that needs and uses a few of these hints besides me.

Now for the good stuff.........I finally started working on setting up my sewing/quilting room. It's coming along and I will send pictures after I finish.

You might try spraying your carpet with some anti-static spray.

Sometimes you can deaden the zap by touching another person first, before they touch you. Or, before you touch a doorknob. Makes the winter go by faster. :lol:

I hava had that problem the last couple of days. I never knew cold weather would do that here in flroida. but it sure did. I live alone so that lil idea of touching someone to transfer the static wont work for me... Like the idea of the static spray will have to try some of that.

A humidifier often helps in the house. As for car door handles and such, you just get used to it.

having the humidifier helps. you can also when you take showers leave the door open to the rest of the house. it will help moisten the air. but unfortunately getting zapped is part of the "mid-west" winter experience. I think it has shaved about 5 years off my life with all the electricity I generate. I would also suggest not wearing socks in the house. and not too many layers. just a warm sweatshirt or sweater. Also if you keep the heat down below 70 it helps also.

I've heard that if you keep a dryer sheet (new) in your pocket it helps.

I've been through this before, also coming from the Black Hills of SD originally. But I just don't remember it being this bad. Maybe with age, it starts hurting in the joints more.
