This sounds safe. They sell the clear switch plates that you put wallpaper behind and that's a lot closer to the electric.

I would think it's safe. They sell the clear switch plates that you put wallpaper behind and that's a lot closer to the electric.

Well said! Some people are called to be critics. They would have missed the songs the angels sang on the first Christmas because they would have been looking for the dust on the angels' wings. froggyintexas

I do not think it should be a problem.

Mod Podge will make it quite strong for a long time, and if it ever wears out, a new plastic switch plate is still under a dollar last I looked. There is no risk that I could think of at all from this unless you put it on there wet, in which case it may be glued to the wall. I have done a lot of wallpaper switchplate covers over the year, and they hold up pretty well, but not as well as they would have if I'd covered them with Mod Podge. I have some decoupaged items that are in frequent use, such as a file box with all my address cards. It's at least 10 years old and shows no sign of wear.

That looks like fun and easy. Think I'll try it. Thanks for the idea!

I am not an electrician but I have rewired many things in my house about the only thing I haven't done electrical wise is the main box.

From what I hear you say, I would be more concerned about the metal switch plate cover instead of the paper you are putting around it. If you do get a short, which is how a fire would get started, you will get a serious shock from the metal plate quicker than getting burned. If it were me, I would go buy some plastic plates to replace them and still decorate them like you want. Like so many here have said, people have been doing it for YEARS!!! and WITHOUT burning the house down.

Are you sure that card stock is what you are using? Even cover stock would be a bit stiff for bending around a switch plate cover. The video shows her just using plain old copy paper. I have done switch plate covers with fabric and Mod Podge and they turn out really well too.
