    think if I throw some on my roof it will melt all that ice build up?

    Looks fine but what happens when the water re-freezes? Does the alcohol prevent that? I think an experiment is in order before doing your step. For on the roof, I saw a report about using panty hose filled with ice melt that you throw up on the roof.

    I've used that recipe to pour on the ramp from my house before the snow comes to prevent snow/ice sticking. It worked about 1/2 way through last winter. Forgot to do it this year, so I've been shovelling. I also wonder about doing it now and having the water refreeze.

    I saw that hint as well but who climbs up on the roof to retrieve the panty hose from the roof after it does its' job?
