When I lived in Cincinnati and worked downtown, on three different occasions, the person in front of me left there ATM card in the machine. I got the same reaction when I would go after them to return their cards. DISBELIEF, followed by gratitude.

Similar situation happened to me. I went to the drive thru to make a $50 withdrawal. By mistake the teller gave me the balance of my account which, by the way, was a substantial amount. When I realized what happened and went back to the bank the teller was so grateful. If her drawer was short it would have come out of her pocket and she would have been fired. All turned out ok.

I've been unexpectedly out of town since Monday afternoon but I just got home and checked my bank account online. It says only $40 was taken from my account at the store that day so obviously someone must have forgotten to take the $20 they'd asked for ahead of me.

I have been very lucky in that I have had 2 customers admit that I undercharged them/gave the wrong change while working in customer service. Once was over $60 I undercharged someone and they came back in and asked me to charge them. It was so sweet. I thanked them endlessly. :D You are not alone in your awesome honesty, but it is becoming more and more rare.

I received an extra 20 or 25 dollars at the atm several years ago. Went inside and was told they would put 10 dollars in my account. Which I told them was unneccessary, but they insisted. I received the $10 credit, only to have it deducted out of my account a few days later with the explanation that they couldn't do that. I agree no good deed goes unpunished, but shouldn't stop us good girls and guys.

Kudos to you for doing the right thing. Have had many of the same reactions when returning lost items, found money, etc.
We had our Master Gardeners Plant Sale a couple of Saturdays ago at the local Farmers Market. There are hundreds of shoppers that go to this sale every Saturday in town. It started pouring rain. As we were running around trying to put plants in cars and closing shop, a shopper found $20 on the ground. He was stunned. We checked to see who was around or if someone was looking for something. You could tell he did not need this money so I told him to give it to the garden club and we would put it to good use. He did without question. No one asked this last Saturday about a found $20, so all is well.
