We can buy it now in our grocery stores, but Mama used to make it by boiling corn with lye and straining it, then rinsing very well.

Now I buy it in "tins" and just pour it out of the can, like corn or any other vegetable. It looks like popped corn but has the texture of english peas?, no sweet taste.

It tastes more like rice, kind of has that texture...

It's used in lots of Hispanic recipes in the SW too. It's in soups and they serve it as side dishes slightly different that Purplemem's recipe.

don't forget the Dilly Bar!!! I just had my first one about a month ago... wow, it was good!!!
Had a chili dog, med. chocolate shakes, & we shared an order of fries. Too full for a Dilly Bar, this time, but I did notice, they had take home boxes of them, so may get some to take home another time! Food was good, enjoyed it!

I use to like Dilly bars, but now I like the Buster Bars better. It's a good thing we don't have a Dairy Queen close to us.
