People who are bored are generally the ones who have no hobbies. Personally, I have too many (LOL). I can't imagine just sitting on a couch watching TV and doing nothing else. My hands have to be in a project at all times - knit, crochet, needlepoint, quilt, whatever!

I've been retired foover 10 yrs and I stiill hate it but I am never bored. Thankfully I grew up when we used our imaginations and could entertain ourselves without all the electronic gadgets the kids have today. And if we said we were 'bored' Mom could always find chores for us to do. Now days as soon as a kid utters that word it's off to WallyWorld to buy some piece of junk made in china.
I'm very proud of the way my son and DIL are raising their 3 girls. They play outside with a sprinkler and they use their imaginations and I have never heard them ever say they are bored. They all love to read. Not much TV watching over there either. They have computers but they are only allowed to use them on the week-ends for 2 hrs in the evening but its very rare the girls even ask to do that. If you ask them what they've been doing they actually have something to say that is interesting.

When I was growing up there was never such a word spoken. We had too much to do to have fun. Sleigh rides, bikes, running, Hide and Seek, Kick the Can, all sorts of outdoor games. You played outdoors after homework, and when the street lights came on you went in. Bored? Didn't know what that was

Like some of you have mentioned, I think depression is involved for some people. And some people have never learned to entertain themselves with books or hobbies. And some people have never learned to make themselves useful and so don't even think about doing things for others. In the last group, maybe they don't feel confident in their skills or abilities to help others. I do have friends and family who do get bored and they always have an excuse why they can't remedy the problem. I think they are more followers than doers. They need someone to do things with. LOL, I have "BORED" myself with the long-winded comment.
