My hard wood floors are 100 yrs old... I have been told, never use water on wood, it soaks in the cracks ( all the spaces between either are dry where the water could leak between or humidity the makes them swell)Murhey's calls for water, so that is out for me.
I have used window cleaner...
Now I use a cleaner from the flooring man in our area. It comes with a reuseable pad.
So I would go for asking a professional in the area.
My tile floors I use the Bissel Vac and Steam, Love it.

I've used Murpy's oil for years and years and my floors are about 70 years old. Recently I started to use the Bona system. It's like Swiffer, but I was told when we put in a new(which is not really new, but recycled) hardwood floor in the kitchen that it's the only thing the flooring company recommends. Now I use it on all the floors and I'm very pleased. It's quick and easy and does a good job. I'm neurotic about clean floors. :)

Shark steam cleaner! The best. I was using the Swiffer for Hard Wood floors and it left my floor streaky and sticky. My floors are not the shiny ones. The steam cleaner uses water only, but not alot of water. It is like you are wiping up the table or counter top with hot water. So not enough water to sink into the cracks of hardwood.

we just bought a house with wood floors, I did some research and realized I would not use water and a mop on them. here's what I use http://www.mybonahome.com/lines/hard...-cleaners.html
so far the floors look great, with just the cleaner and a microfiber pad.

Every so often I use a homemade floor wash but i don't soak them.Mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar to 2 gallons hot water, with a couple of drops of lemon juice and 1/8 cup dish soap. It makes them shine. I usually go over the floor with a micro fiber mop to dry them it only takes a few minutes. Then you can get back to sewing.
