Thanks for the input. Really appreciate it. The weather channel makes me nervous because when I see the report for OKC it is sometimes iffy.

We will be doing the National Parks - Grand Canyon, Grand Tetons, Yellowstone, Mt Rushmore, any thing else you can see from the car that look interesting. My son in law is okay with "pull over, that looks great!"

Traveling by car for a vacation is great, you can throw in that heavier jacket, boots, etc., in case you need them, also a good place to keep an umbrella too.

DH and I have traveled a lot throughout the US by car, usually fly to a big city, rent a car and make a big circle through the state and sometimes neighboring states, so we would never know what kind of weather to expect. We drive up to Mass. often to visit with our grandkids and in the winter I found that if I take my boots, hat, scarf and gloves it never snows or gets too cold, they are my insurance for good weather.

LOL, May, I do the same as you. I take my umbrella so it won't rain. Too funny.

Polly, my friend went on that trip in June and it snowed before they left to come home. They had already sent their coats home. Bummer.

I am from the SD, and it is sweat shirt/jacket weather now. It got down to mid's 30*'s this morning when I got up. It will pretty to go through Spearfish canyon when the leaves will be turning in October. If you have other question, PM me. It's possible to need a heavy coat, but it is more likely in Dec. for a day or two.

It's been know to snow around Halloween, but it is melted by the next day. Northern ND had a blizzard the last week of October but was beautiful the next week. Some possible rain iis to be expected. It's has rained off and on the last couple of days. Just watched the weather.

Have a great time. Love that part of the country. Might want to try to fit in Deadwood and Devil's Tower, both in S.D.

Don't know if you'll have time but Arches near Moab in southern Utah would be great that time of year. Not too hot and the scenery is breath taking, even from the car. That's the location of Delicate Arch which was seen in the opening ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Beautiful color country.

A couple of links you might find interesting.

Better watch out, sometimes Yellowstone may be closed then, from snow!
