How good a housekeeper are you?

When I was much younger you could run your "white gloves" over my door casings and never find a speck of dust, HOWEVER, now that I am 77...I don't always make my bed, seem to spill everything I put my hands on in the kitchen, always have sewing supplies, quilts, material and scraps all over dining room table and I dust once a week whether it needs it or not !!! LOL

My main floor is clean tonight--I had Easter dinner for family. How long it will stay that way depends on how long the clutter bugs decide to keep it that way. Living on a farm and having 5 GK's in and out it's hard to keep the house clean all the time, so every month or so I do big batch cleaning. It's enough for me.

I like a clean house, and no clutter. Sorry, but thats how I was brought up. I do my house work in the morning, then have the rest of the day to sew. I raised 4 children, but I was lucky and got to be a stay at home moma. I have never been bored in my life.

To me I don't want to be remembered for "she had the cleanest house" which would never happen. Would rather be remembered for she was a good wife, mom and did things for others. I have to do my cleaning first thing in the morning then after a few things are done, can go on the computer and sew. Otherwise nothing would get done.

if you are feeling overwhelmed, i would hire someone to help you clean for a while. especially with a sale coming up. My husband and i were getting a daughters house ready for sale. she had already moved out of state, with her two young children, and her medically disabled husband. i had a lady come in and do windows, window ledges, deep cleaning, etc. and this was after we/I had worked non stop for a month. everyday on an empty house painted inside and out, small repairs, touch up's, etc. sometimes, you just need the help, and it is worth the $200.

I used to be able to keep the house clean. Not so anymore. I think I am busier now than when the kids were home and there was a 1000 things going on. My dh is retired now and we spend a lot of time together - bicycle rides, motorcycles rides, flea markets, thrift stores, ..... Throw in some computer time and some sewing time, and the housework time is used up. And so is most of my energy. Like someone else said - come on over if you want to visit me; I don't care if you drop in but don't be offended if the house isn't clean. I would hate to have to think about moving and all the work involved. Just take things a little at a time and you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish. Good luck!

IF its worth it to you .. Hire a maid to come in for a 1/2 day and as you are packing each room to take out the clutter- have her clean it. That is what I did -Hired Merry Maids-she came in- I had the living room, dining room, kitchen packed and cleaned but she did all the vacuuming, dusting. Then had her come in another 1/2 day after doing the bathroom, 3 bedrooms. IT was very well worth it to me and all I had to do was the packing of items for the Shed. Most realtors want it painted, shampooed and all personal items removed.
