How many have a garden?

Lol, I'm sorry, I can't help it, I have to show you some of my rocks too... I love my rocks. I bring them back from everywhere I go. I carry them on the plane, bus, train... in the car. I also love finding heart shaped rocks and have them tucked away all over. I have one large one that I found, I didn't do anything to alter it's shape at all. You can tell it's size by my size 8 foot next to it in the one photo. It was partly buried in the roots of a blown over tree.
I love finding old colanders to put them in

I do rocks also. But most of our rocks are so boring because our ground is ancient (10,000 years old) glacial moraine. Digging simple hole for a tree here is at least a one hour job.
I carry a small bucket into the garden whenever I plant or dig in a row. Every little stone and rock goes into the bucket and then dumped into my garden border project. The borders are about three feet wide and the bottom is covered with old magazines and newspapers with weedcloth on top. The rocks go on top as a permanent mulch, no weeding. I have daylilies planted in the beds. The goal is to have all of the fence line done in this border.

I use newspaper as mulch in my garden beds. I put it down 6 or 7 layers deep then add a layer of bark mulch on top of that. By the time that all breaks down, the soil is so loose, I can pull most weeds right out, roots and all. I also leave the leaves that come down every fall right in the garden to decompose and help mulch the beds. Weeding is not too hard to keep up with except certain ones that I am about to declair I planted on purpose. LOL

We, too, have both veggie and flower gardens, as well as shrubs and shade loving plants. I sure hope we have better growing weather this year. It's been a couple of years since we had weather that was warm and/or dry enough for things like tomatoes. Last year was a real dud.
I have been doing some planning and will start seeds inside soon. Crossing my fingers, toes, eyes and anything else that we'll have a crop and can have our own flowers in the house this summer.
