When my 3 cats were alive everyone ate alone in separate rooms. The two dogs eat together in another room. I always felt like a short order cook. LOL

I was going to suggest separate rooms also. Give them maybe 20 minutes to chow down; after that, doors are opened and excess food (if any) is put away.

My Moose (the one pictured in my avatar) was almost 22 lbs when I got him. Now two years later, he's down to 16.5 lbs. I have four other cats, so it wasn't easy. Separate feeding areas, food, treats, no treats, etc., was either a lot of trouble or felt too much like punishment for one of the parties involved. So, I increased his level of activity. Turns out this big guy really loved to play. I engaged him in different levels of play several times a day. So, why not give exercise a try? You'll both have fun, and it will be much less stressful.

Want to add that Carmello is a handsome boy!! Keep us posted on his progress.

try one of those lazer lights for pets. my furbabies love to run and chase that silly thing. even the dog loves it. we have fun with it.

I do need to increase his exercise. He used to love the toys but now when I play with him he just swats at the stuff. My DH also feeds him table food and he promised he's going to stop. Last night Carmello didn't get any table food and he was fine. Just a bad habit.
I'm concerned about him getting diabetes. Being too heavy isn't good for our furry friends either.

You might try cat fishing. Even my old man - Boomer aka Boogie who is almost 11 will beat the girls out of the way to cat fish.

Buy a child's fishing pole - one of the really short ones. Replace the hook with a safety pin. Attach a furry mouse to the safety pin. Get their attention by dangling the mouse in front of them. When you get their attention - cast the mouse down the hall or across the room. When they start to follow it - start reeling it back. They will play for HOURS if you let them. The more activity the retreival is - i.e. varying speed, dips, jerks, etc. - the better.
