Thanks, all, great response! We are a varied group, from about 4'7" to about 6'2". Most of us are clustered in the 5'1" - 5'8" range, which is broader than I would have guessed.

I counted pre-shrinking heights, where given, and included wives and daughters, but not men (sorry, Eddie, though it would be interesting to do a survey on quilting men's heights, too). I did the math three different ways and got three different answers, but the average woman's height comes out to about 5'5", give or take half an inch.

For those who wrote about the difficulties getting clothes that fit your non-standard height, I wear large sizes (horizontally challenged) and can only say I agree. We are not one standard size. We have the technology to manufacture stylish clothes that fit all of us. IMO, anyne who would actually do this would be rich.

I heard a few years ago that the average woman is 5'4" and 140 lbs. This stuck in my head because it is exactly what I am... well, I'm almost 5'4". Haven't shrunk any yet.

Hubby is almost 6'3", my daughter is 5'7.5" and my son is 6'2", so I'm the shrimp... as was seen in the wedding photos of our family.

I am 5'4". My sister is 5'10" and my brother is 6'3". BUT I am two inches taller than my Dad and 4 inches taller than my paternal grandmother. My mom is 5'7" and her dad was 6'3".

My husband is 5'7" - kind of short-er for a guy - but luckily my son got the height gene from somewhere else - he is 5'10".
