How would you about this?

Let it go. This happens all the time people want something for nothing. Then complain when it's not the way they invisioned. This why I don't sew for the public.
I am sure you did a great job, and the students mostly would be happy with the skirts.
Pat yourself on the back say 'well done' then move on.
If you are teacher you have more things to be concerned about. You have got to a giving person to have even took on the job.

Perhaps you can put a bug in the ear of the principal regarding what happened. Someone with an attitude like that can twist the situation around to blame you as needed later on. As an administrator, I always prefer the "Just wanted to let you know, I love to help out other teachers AND this is the situation..."

I have to comment on this.
I think you should send an official bill for your time, materials, etc. You are a professional and professionals get paid! Who was supposed to be paying the bill, her or the school? Send the bill directly to the school just as a plumber, carpenter or other trademan would.
If you send the bill and it doesn't get paid, she will at least realize that she should not expect such a thing in the future.

So sorry this happened to you . What are people thinking  Obviously she couldn't do it herself, or she wouldn't have asked you , but know she is expecting much more :?
Next time she approaches you to help (?) politely decline. I am in the process of making two Jr bridesmaid dresses that have a ton of gathering so I can relate to the time that is involved  She sounds like the type of person that matter what , she would not have been happy .
Back to the swaps

Another thing I just thought of, not that it will change anything, you have to decide how to proceed.
but her comment about them being useless.... you could mention to her this is no different then a bride whose wedding gets cancelled, the dress is now useless to the bride but she still had /has to pay for it ! That is her problem , not yours you did what was required and in the time frame that was stipulated

Well, if they are useless to her, ask for them to be returned if you aren't getting paid. She could trade her cost of the material for the cost of your time.
And I hope you haven't returned the last skirt and remaining fabric to her.

ask to have a meeting with her and the principal and have her repeat what she told you about them being worthless. Could be that she's caused more trouble about other projects than what you know and this "attitude" of hers needs to be brought out in the open.
