How Was Your Holiday Weekend?

A mixed bag for us. We went to Chicago to help MIL go thru' "stuff", (or crap as has been mentioned here.!!! ), in preparation for moving her to somewhere with more assistance.
This is about a 15 hour drive for us. DH's daughter came with us so we figured with 3 drivers, not a bad drive. Sure...until our 6 cylinder engine became a 4!!! And not even 1/2 way there yet. We managed to limp to the next truck stop where DH borrowed a meter to plug into the engine and find out what was going on. He figured it wouldn't get any worse, so we limped on to Chicago. Thank goodness the manual "lives" in the van so he was able to read up and figure what/how to fix the problem. Instead of hitting the fabric shops on Saturday morning, we headed for the auto parts store. :( Not only did we have to get the parts to fix it, we also had to buy the tools needed...all our tools were back home. :( By now, it was too hot to be working outside, so we got on with the "stuff" at MIL's. DH is an early riser, so by the time daughter and I were up on Sunday, he had it fixed!!! YAY!! Sunday was an enjoyable day with Mom, and then to bed early. Monday we were on the road by 6:30AM. We had a minor detour west of Milwaukee...DH had a mower deck to pick up for our big tractor. At this point we were racing against the weather to get ahead of a huge rainstorm. We didn't quite make it so on with the wipers....for about 3 swipes and the drivers side wiper dies!!!! I pulled over to the side and DH went back to find the wiper, thinking he can mickey it together. Just as he got to where it was laying in the road, a semi drove over it, followed by a big motorhome!! Needless to say, it was now in many pieces. LOL Once again, we managed to make it to the next truck stop and lucked out that they had a blade that was only about 2" too short. We made do!!!! Finally made it the rest of the way without incident and arrived home about 10:00 PM. We were all very happy to get into bed.
So...parts of the w/end were "holiday from he--", and seeing Mom and her OLD quilts was great. And a good learning experience for the 18 year old daughter.
Happy holidays!!!!!! :D hehehe
