Fingers and toes crossed that the weather cooperates for your daughter's blessed day. Hope everyone stays safe, dry, and happy. My daughter lives in Hopatcong - do you know that area? Nice to "meet" you.

Hope things go well. I went through one hurricane years and years ago at the shore Not fun pretty scary and it didn't even really hit land. But oh the rain and flooding. I was living not far from the water at the time. Waretown NJ.

We had just moved from Seaford VA...never had a hurricane while there, and then moved to north western NC (wilkes county to be precise) and got socked by Hugo!! It was CRAZY! we were without power for two weeks I think. I am praying Earl turns a little earlier than expected and won't hit our coast line so hard. I'm hoping everyone stays safe and their property will too.

I am as much as I can be. I've gotten all the stuff out of the trees (bird feeders/ornaments) bought groceries, and 6 pounds of coffee, have the liquid fuel for the camp stove, and lots of sewing I can do. Neil will get gas for the thing (my mind isn't working) to get lights working during power outage. I'm as ready as I can be. These things are never easy. Right now they are still predicting the outer bands to come in over us. I'm 5 miles from the inlet and 12 miles from the ocean (as the crow flies) Everything depends on what happens with this low that was supposed to come through, it didn't, so now Earl could be drawn in anywhere.

They are issuing passes to get back on Topsail Island and Surf City. Not a pretty picture.

    Thanks for asking, Chele

My daughter and her family and my son and his girlfriend are vacationing in the outer banks until Sat. morning. I talked to my daughter and she doesn't seem concerned, but my tummy's in a knot!

Pam, they are issuing mandatory evacuations right now. She must get off or be stuck. If she'd ever lived through one she would know how foolish it is not to heed the warnings.

I think I heard they must be off by 5pm today, right?

That's right, they are loading the ferry as fast as they can now. Just saw pictures on our local news. It's really not a pretty picture.

We are waiting to see what will happen here. The storm is SUPPOSED to stay to the Northeast, but I am already clearing my deck. Don't need things flying around LOL..
