As an adoptee myself I'm so excited for you!
Just a note regarding any of the online birth records - they will only show the "updated" record following adoption, not the original record which was "closed" at the time of adoption if it happened prior to the time when open adoptions started happening (the 80s I think). A court order is required to get the record opened in Texas. Don't know about other states.

I am on ancestry.com - bought a year's subscription. Just can't find much about her after 1951. I was born in 1949, she married Wesley Reed in 1951 & he died in 1954. He was twice her age when they married. After that, it's like she fell off the planet. Just realized that I spelled our last name wrong - Rodgers!!!
I wish you the best of luck with your new-found cousin. I think it's exciting.

Mom-6, I hired a lawyer & got the court order to unseal my adoption records. It was quite an adventure as I was assigned the newbie in the family law firm in Tulsa, OK. She had not done an un-sealing before, so I was the guinea pig. Didn't mind. We got things unsealed, but were still looking for info on my father. Attorney was trying to get my juvenile record, but kept running into road blocks. I had her stop once we moved here to Texas as the funds for this search were coming from my income. Since I don't quilt with convicts, anymore, no income. I figured if it was meant to be, it would happen.

As I understand it, Ancestry information is not necessarily "proven" information. I'm told that it can be edited to suit your own wishes as to that history. Not that it isn't an excellent resource as it may give you a new lead but do be sure you follow the lead to be sure it can be verified. Obituaries are the same. Sometimes those are written by families that might not necessarily have all the facts or even like the rest of the bunch so they omit or alter information. All takes more time but at least you know it is factual information.
