Then you go find a squirrel in a tree, He will see you in your big hat and say "Eeek" and run around the back of the tree. You go back of the tree and make noise, he will see you and rush back to the other side of the tree. You take off hat and put it on a bush, then rush back to the other side of the tree. Squirrel will see you there and rush to back of tree, see the hat and think you beat him there and rush back to your side of the tree. Shoot squirrel and remove insides, skin and wrap in plastic, take home and cook.[/quote]

Congrats! My father-in-law spent hours, days, months, years trying to "fix" those darned squirrels. He is smiling down on us right now. :)

Like you said squirrels will stay and eat until the feeder is empty. We finally solved the problem by putting vaseline on the pole going up and when they jumped up they slide down and look at their paws and look up at the feeder like what happened and then they rub their paws in the grass. I think we have new squirrels because they never bother even with the feed on the ground. So nice. They break everything. One even came thru the screen to our lanaii to get some bird food in the bag my DH forgot to put in the closet. Love the little guys but...Sue

Oh, I LOVE my squirrel! We used to have four, but Chunkella has evicted the others. :twisted: She has her own feeder that she empties in about two days. When it's empty, she'll sit out there and drop the top so it bangs and looks at the house. If she does not get the desired response, she will come over to the porch and look in through the slider, obviously displeased with her empty tummy. If she gets real desperate, she will climb the dog run to eat the suet cake, but she's a bit pudgy, so it's difficult for her to balance.

As for the cats, Tippy Troy expends only enough energy to walk to the cat feeder-there will be no catching dinner for him. Uglette, the female is grey with a bit of orange. Her first introduction to Chunkella was when she was about six months old-about as big as Chunkella. She was wandering the yard, and came too close to the feeding tree. Thinking she was another squirrel, Chunkella flew down the tree and chased her across the yard, scolding the entire time. Ug just has to hear the scolding start up and she is GONE. :shock:
I do have bird feeders up too, but our little birds are mostly black and brown. I've never had the squirrels bother the feeders that hang from my house.

I had read somewhere that squirrels don't like cayenne pepper but it doesn't bother the birds. I put some on the seeds in the platform feeder. A squirrel came up and grabbed a couple of seeds, got a funny look on his face and started wiping his face with his paws. He then grabbed his tail and vigorously wiped his mouth. It really was funny to watch.
