Sounds exactly like my in-laws! LOL They would never understand my stash. You are an adult and you can and should do what pleases you as long as its legal. And they haven't outlawed fabric collecting yet!

As to my stash, I tell them, "it will get used eventually".

Do what is right for you, not others.
I have to agree with this 100%. Not her business. Period.

I think you know your own limitations. Just $4 at Walmart? Quit worrying about it and enjoy making the quilt. Get the batting with a coupon another time and the back another. I have been bothered by people getting after me for buying 1/3 of a yard from $9-$10 a yard fabric. They would much rather pay $3 for a whole yard of fabric then they will give me the other 2/3rds of it when they are done. What is the difference?

No matter what you do there are going to be negative people, she may just be trying to help, and not handling it properly, she knows your circumstances, and just wants you to be careful. Let her know that you know your finances, and are in control of them.

Try "It's cheaper than whiskey and I can still drive after I'm done shopping."

Seriously, though, Anna is right. Everyone spends their money on something-you choose to quilt, others bowl, sky dive, snow ski, fish.....remind her of her hobbies and if she doesn't have one then that would explain her criticism of yours.

I went to all of them and the people were nasty and unfriendly - was thinking of moving to Raleigh, but because of the quilt shops attitudes, I am rethinking!
