I am almost 5'3, so I know about short.
I figured the reason that I always wanted to remove the doors on the cabinets was because I wanted to see everything I owned.
Out of sight, out of mind is alive and well in my world, so the open cabinets helped me remember what was there.
Interesting concept of the pantry, as I was just considering doing that in the worm room ... right now, (no vermiculae, since I moved them out to the slab - - where they escaped)
the thing is piled high with boxes and boxes and more boxes, PLUS ... all the coffee cans I can't bring myself to throw away ... but, something is telling me I have got to get serious about that pantry thing.

There was a house I saw one day on the junction from the peninsula to Raymond. It was up on a hill, overlooking the bay, and the day I saw the house, it was overcast, wet, and gray as most of the days are in the place of my birth. And, in the middle of all that gray was this house - - painted apple green and electric pink! I LOVED it!
I have yet to actually do more than a few barn boards with that color scheme, but someday ....
    <g> I like bold colors, too ...

    update!

Walls are done, 4 coats of paint, the last one being the sheen, and they walls look great.
    woodwork is polished and treated
windows are clean, (at least on the inside)
    spent today shampooing carpet
fireplace brick is clean and insert is shinny, all traces of winter gone!

We should have the furniture tomorrow night, then I can start putting room back together.

Sitting here in jammies, drinking tea, and sucking on a werthers. Only furniture left in Den is my computer desk. I refuse to acknowledge the chaos around me! Mortimer's couch is now in kitchen. discovered it won't fit out the back door and can't get to front door.
I spent the day playing"The Little Women", emptying and refilling the container to the shampooer.

Decided to cook dinner for the first time in a week. Went to grill some steaks and the gas run out half way through cooking. so I found the stove top and finished the steaks. Sat on Mortimer's couch and used the shampooer box for a table, no cloth this time.
Neighbors dropped in to see how it was going. Didn't tell them the truth! :D

So, I have 1 clean room in the house and 9 others waiting to be cleaned!

DH is wore out, I'm sure he's glad that he has to work tomorrow.

DH brought home a cheese cake for dessert, so things are ok!

Glad to hear the light is at the end of the tunnel, Ninnie!

Next time you paint couldn't you tie a brush to Motimer's tail and let him help? He could reach the high bits! LOL

I feel for you. DH and I and his best friend sent the kids to Oregon to visit grandparents for a month one summer so we could renovate the kitchen ourselves. HAH! we thought we would have it all done in a month! took us the whole summer and I swear we were close to divorce by the end of summer. My DH now says when any large work like that needs to be done. he says "honey pay the man" so I call a handyman and pay him and things are all peaceful then :)
