It all started when DH says "honey, why don't we get you new den furniture for Mother's day?" He is a doll and does tend to spoil me rotten!

Sweet of him right? I thought so too until I started to look at the walls and discovered that the blue paint wouldn't go with the new furniture, and the ceiling was a mess. (ceiling had been blown in the 70's with plaster ) So I say "Honey , we really need to paint first". And since the kitchen is open to the Den, we'll have to paint those blue cabinets also! No sweat, the furniture won't be here for 2 weeks, so plenty of time! We go and buy paint, light brown for the den and moonlight gold for my kitchen cabinets. I start in the kitchen, because DH is going to do the den. He starts to paint the ceilings and discovers that you can't paint the plaster. As soon as it gets wet, it falls off. So DH says Connie Beth,, we need to scrape this ceiling first before we can paint it.( By now, no more Honey) We spend all weekend scraping the ceiling, all my sheets on the floor, got the primer pun on the ceiling late Monday night. Yea progress!

DH had to work the rest of the week, so now my job to have the room "cut in " by the time he gets home tonight. All the kitchen's stuff is in the Dinning Room and the den stuff is in the halls and living room, except for Mortimer's couch. But, no sweat, it's temporary and still have 2 weeks to finish, right?
Wrong! They just called and said the furniture is in and for us to come and pick it up! I lost it then. Told them It would be picked up when and only when my house was back in order! that poor man, didn't know what to say to me.

I just want to go check into a Hotel and forget all this! So I am now on here crying and procrastinating, because I don't want to paint anymore!

Well, that ole wall isn't getting painted by itself, os guess I had better get on the ball!

PS: the furniture wasn't a frivolous buy, after 7 kids, 2Grands, and 3 Great Danes, the old was falling apart!

Wow, I feel better now! Thanks guys!

You know, I'm jealous in one sense because you get "new" rooms. New colors....new furniture. How nice. My furniture is 12 years old and looks to be 25 years old. BUT, Ninnie (or Honey  ) I don't envy all the work you are having to do. It sounds exhausting and like a whole big can of worms was opened. Keep in mind that it will all be worth it......and you have to post pictures!!!!

I know Ducky, and if ours wasn't falling apart, we would have never gotten new. I hate new things anyway. It's been at least 15 years since we have done this. Just a few years older now!

Kids all live away from here and have lives of their own! They will be surprised when the see the new doings!

Just can't stand the mess, and can't even get to my sewing room!

    Thanks for the ear!

Erma Bombeck has a humor contest. Work on this story line toward her guidelines and you have a WINNER !! Even after all your renovations are done !! This is funny ! Find the HUMOR, find a HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS, you can even get breakfast to refresh your frayed nerves !!

Great write ! Sorry for your distress. Breath, I knew neighbors that divorced after a kitchen renovation. The last straw as what kind of knobs!!!

One thing leads to another huh? I remember a Happy Days show when Howard was sick and his wife took over the hardware store. She made a killing on a sale she had. Hubby wanted to know how she did so well and she explained:

It is like a hot potato when you get it you then have to have sour cream and then you have to have butter and then you need cheese and then you need bacon and then you need chives and then you need....

People would buy one thing and then that would lead to another thing they just had to buy!

All this activity is good for your local do it yourself store!!!!! Great for the economy!

Also been there done that! I have paint I need to use that we bought 2 years ago I need to find time to repaint my living room and two ceilings! Just haven't wanted to make the mess! But it does need to be done!

Years ago, when our youngest daughter was a senior in high school, we decided to put new kitchen counters in. We would work all day at our store, and then come home and work at night here. One particular friday night, DH had cut the counter piece wrong and was blaming me for measuring wrong, (I did Not either ! :D :D ), our daughter came out of her bedroom with a packed suitcase and said :I'm going to Jessica's house for the weekend.I'll be home Monday after school if you both are still alive!"

Kind of cleared the air and we were alright then!

While finishing our lower floor, I told husband i wanted a wall .. "here" .. never measuring he hammered away, wall not in the place i asked. I did not like it.. "Fine" he pulled it out and put it on other side of unfinished lower floor. It made a nice bedroom. I never had a wall where he placed the first one for 20 years until my mother moved in..

It was a great 20 years to have such a large room !!

Wished I had my own hammer at one time.. Sorry ladies... grin
