I use Sulky 100% polyester bobbin thread. It only comes in black and white, I rarely use a color other than black or white in my bobbin when I make clothes. All thread leaves debris behind when you sew so you should clean your bobbin casing regularly. I like Sulky because it "sheds" less and it's 1100 yds. on the spool, so it takes a long time to run out.

Oh, she is just precious! You did a great job on the dress, congrats! If I am using a pattern that I haven't used before, I will lay it out on something like it that I know fits. That way I know if it will work and what needs adjusting before I cut it out. I've also taken old clothes that fit well and ripped out the seams and used those for patterns as well.

You are off to a great start. You should pat yourself on the back.

Well first let me say she is adorable and I can see she LOVES her new dress. I think clothes sewing is WAYYY easier then quilting. my blocks do NOT come out right but I love the quilting part of it. just not so much the construction part. I use both types of thread basically I think now it is a matter of preference. If I don't have the color to match the material in cotton I ju stgrab my machine embroidery thread which is polyester and use that

When my children were young, now in their 30s, I made most of their clothes. Fabric prices made it advantageous to sew rather than buy kid's clothes.
When my grandaughter Emma (my avatar) was born, I purchased Pooh eyelet and white cotton for the dress below. I'm sure I could have bought the dress for less than $30. Construction-wise, the armholes and neck facings were so small and precise, yikes, quilting is much easier.
I'll give it another shot though, I guess it's in my blood-Challenge!

I do a little clothes sewing; there's nothing to it really... follow the directions, make sure you cut out the notches or mark the dots; and then match those up like the patten says. Take your time, you'll be great.
As far as thread type. I use a polyester, it's not like it's a quilt, where you have to worry about the thread 'cutting' the fibers. I never paid attention to the weight of the thread, I just used a general thread in a color as close to the fabric as possible.
good luck, don't forget to give us a look at your finished dress
