I saw a flock of Robins!

We have been going through the worst winter in years - but we have a flock of about 50-60 robins that perch in a tree across the alley and chew on the berries/fruit (don't know what they are and either do the neighbors), but they get themselves (the birds, that is) snockered on those fermented little morsels and keep warm during this cold winter. Way to go, Birdies!!!!! Edie

Hi all. I have loved reading this thread but was confused by comments on the robin returning for spring, soooo I looked up USA robin and UK robin, which are two different birds. Here in the UK the robin stays all year round and are only seen more than one except at breeding time.

Kooklabell- I suspect your robins are very unhappy with last night's snowstorm. Bitter cold near Albany. It's rare for me to see robins during such a bad winter and none this year, though I've been keeping the curtains closed to hold in the heat. My neighbor has about 15 feeders out so I'll ask him if he's seen any. I wish Spring was coming sooner! I do sometimes have blue herons until the lake has a prolonged hard freeze. They look very goofy slipping around, trying to spear fish through the ice.

No--I haven't seen any signs of spring over here in Kalamazoo, Michigan. That is awesome that you saw robins, though! We have SO much snow here and freezing temperatures--it's starting to get to everyone. :P

Here in Oregon, we have had a mild winter and are below average rainfall. Our worst was a cold snap in December for over a week highs were in the 20s. I saw a robin on the 12th of January, while working outside with my husband. We also have bulb tips starting to come out of the ground.
