When my kids turned 30, I started giving them a gift fo $10 for each year of their life. At 40, 45 etc I made it $100 for each year. At first, they thought I'd made a mistake - but they loved it, of course!

I plan to do the same for the grandkids starting at age 20. The oldes will be 19 in May

I started Trust accounts for each of my 3 grandchildren when they were born - to be used for their education. The about-to-be 19 year old is a freshman this year. She earned 1/2 her tuition in grants, and her Trust is paying for the other half & her B&R. Can you tell I'm a proud grandma?

When my Grandparents died we found a jar of really old pennies (1882). So I am saving money older than my daughter (1980) for her kids if she ever has any. Some day they might be worth more than they are today. If not they can just spend it. It is easy to save a few coins every once in a while.

I gave a bond to my niece for her birth. My sister gave it to her in the spring sand she put in a butterfly garden 4x6 and asked my sister to pay for the rest of it. after she had her pay closing costs on her expensive house the list goes on and on and we saved for 5 months and went without to get the bond for her. My advice save your money you have no idea how much money you will need if a sickness happens to you.

At the time my kids were little, both grandparents gave them 'tuition trust' money. Ohio, at the time, had a program where you bought college credits, and if they were used at an Ohio college, they were redeemable for the cost of credits at the time they went to college, plus, they were tax deductible for the buyer. About 15 years later this program was cancelled because it lost so much money, but the credits were still redeemable at the same rate. My kids got out of college with absolutely NO college debt, becxause of their grandparents foresight and their scholarships. Also, my son in the Navy gave his to his sister, which he could do

The kids got so many gifts from other people, and we taught them the value of a college education, so they apreciated the gift of $.
