Identity Fraud Tip
#12
I learned the hard way!! I had over $500 in gas charged against my debit card. Never use a debit card for anything but withdrawing cash from your bank account!! My banker opened a credit card for my account and the bank restored the money to my account. She told me gas stations are where the majority of frauds happen. My credit card company has an app for a virtual number generated when I place an order online. That number is linked to my card number, but no one sees my real number. The expiration date on the virtual number is always within a few days. The credit card caught an $8.36 fraudulent charge and called me about it, then closed that number and the company sent me a new card overnight express. The reason the credit card company caught the charge is because it was a charge in California and I live in Missouri.
