Great topic!

I've learned that I'm more likely to use fabric from my SABLE if I purchase enough coordinating fabrics to make into a quilt. I love to go to the discount area and pick out coordinating fabric. I sometimes end up raiding it for another project, but when I purchase only one fabric because I love it, I can never figure out what to use it for.

I have learned to give away the scraps from a quilt. They almost always get taken up at the Free table at Guild. Don't keep everything. Pass books and magazines on to someone else. If I have to purchase anything for a quilt, 9 times out of 10 it's the backing fabric. I can't stand not to have a good back. My stash will complete most quilts. I have also learned to mix prints and batiks. Avoid geometric batiks. The list goes on and on. What a great topic.

Alyce, I am in total agreement with your "feelings"! I do have a few projects at different stages, though. such as ones to hand quilt in the evening. But my stash is all donated or leftovers from projects I've made. And I used to buy new fabric for each quilt and found that a fun way to start.

Its the journey with creating that I love so if a quilt takes a few years, that's fine with me!

I have learned that I love this board--love reading all the posts from an amazing group of quilters and looking at all the quilts. I have learned a lot from all of you.

I love the response from Marion about collecting rocks-I have many rocks I have collected over the years, just like fabric!

I have learned that I love giving away what I make--though not all are as appreciated as I thought they would be-- probably the reason I make lots of charity quilts!

I could list ALL OF THE ABOVE, lol.

-I have learned not to buy on a whim. Some things though pretty, are just a
passing feeling.

-I have learned not to save so many patterns or Pin so many pictures. I say to
myself, "My, that's pretty or interesting, but will you REALLY make it?"

-I have learned there is a balance between cute/pretty and useable/productive.
Go for less cute/pretty and put it where I can see it to be inspired.
The useable/productive stuff needs to be accessible and neat but not pretty.

I have learned that it's okay to take one or two finished blocks and some fabric pieces to the baby shower and then take them right back home again to finish the quilt.

I do collect rocks. Years ago, we lived near a river and I collected smooth rocks. I have painted them to look like whales, sharks, and all sorts of things. I love rescuing the the image that wants to be freed.

I have learned that my own pace is ok for me.
...I do better on my own than at a class.
...I like to do all parts of making the quilt. (does that include sandwiching..no)
...It's ok to walk away when overwhelmed.
...Overwhelmed goes away.
...I don't need every tool or ruler.
...Everything else that's been mentioned.
