I was just hinking the other day when I got home, how wonderful it is for my "kids" to greet me at the gate, wagging tails and joyful that mom is home! sigh. nothing better

Was a short time without dog. Had cats (2) but was missing something, so daughter found me a dog. You're right, they love you and are there no matter what. Can't imagine being without again.

I just lost one of my babies-16 yo. I still have 2 dogs and 4 cats but I feel like I lost my best friend. He was mine.

When our last dog, Pekingese/Shih Tsu mix passed away, the house felt empty. Our son got hubby and me a Pekingese we call Katy for our birthdays. Best present we got besides our cat.

Can also relate to everything in your post. We have 2 chihuhuas, two scotties and one corgi. As I sit at the computer, they are all scattered around the room sleeping. Just let the doorbell ring and it's pandemonium!! Couldn't live without them.

Our children gave us a lab/ret. for a Christmas gift a few yrs. ago. We said if we ever got another dog we would get a spayed female. Well they gave us an un-neutered male dog. They had him "fixed" for us and he turned into the greatest dog ever. Would get another one from the pound IF that ever happens.

This was well written. I do agree that dogs are lots of comfort
and quard us , give us simpathy when needed but after seeing
our last dog Tasha suffer her last days, having to carry her in and out for her needs and then seeing her put to her final rest
we can not do it again. Instead we share our daughter great
Malmute Husky who is a baby and a very gently dog. In our
elder years we need to take care of ourselves , and not have
    others take care of extra.
We do have 2 cats and they keep us busy and comfort us.
