Welcome back. I have an external hard drive as well. Computers are wonderful when they cooperate, but when they don't, it is a heartbreak! I just got mine back from service and it feels good!

Ask some computer smart 14 year old if he can retrieve files on your old hard drive. Sometimes it can be done. But that's a good hard way to learn to back up your stuff every now and then.

Sorry about losing all your pictures, some of them were probably priceless.

welcome back. I download all my pics on a thumb drive. Haven't tried an external hard drive yet. Sounds like a better idea!

Thumb drives can go bad! Use them often to keep them charged. I don't know what that really means, but that is what I was told by a clerk. A friend lost stuff on her thumb drive. It cannot be retreived!
